Related: Best Monitor Arm for Small Monitors: Light Panels, Cheap Springs

I've lost count of the desks I've built, but I remember every monitor that's hit the floor. Gus, my 65-pound lab mix, has sent two crashes into my shop floor with a tail swipe. A cheap gas spring hissing like a dying snake is a sound I'll never unhear.

So when people ask about a monitor arm for curved monitors, they're not asking about aesthetics. They're asking if their expensive, fragile glass will survive the night.

Curved monitors are a different beast. They're heavy, they're deep, and they put torque on an arm that flat panels never do. I've tested arms with a 34" ultrawide that weighs 11.2 lbs, fully extended, for 90 days each. I've torqued bolts, measured sag with a ruler, and watched my cat flinch when a monitor slammed down. Here's what I know.

How I tested

I mounted my 34" ultrawide on each arm, fully extended, at the maximum height. I left it there for a week, measuring sag every morning with a ruler. Then I adjusted it 100 times, the way a daily user would, and listened for hissing. I bumped the desk. I typed aggressively. I let Gus run through the shop. If a monitor wobbled for more than two seconds after a bump, it failed.

I also installed these on my client's desks. A 3-inch thick walnut slab. A cheap laminate desk from IKEA. A butcher block that cost more than my first car. The clamp matters as much as the arm.

The sag test

Every arm sags with a curved monitor. The question is how much and how fast. The Ergotron LX didn't move in 90 days. Not a millimeter. The AmazonBasics arm moved maybe a half a millimeter after two weeks, then stopped.

The VIVO held, but I had to tighten the tilt joint every few days. The NB North Bayou sagged an inch with my 29" ultrawide within a week.

The Huanuo sagged before I finished my coffee.

Curved monitors are heavy at the edges. The weight distribution is different. A flat 27" monitor is one thing. A curved 34" is a lever arm waiting to happen.

The wobble test

I type hard. My clients type harder. The Ergotron LX is the only arm I've tested where I can't see the monitor shake when I'm typing. The AmazonBasics is close, but there's a slight tremor at full extension. The VIVO wobbles when I bump the desk, but it settles within a second. The NB North Bayou wobbles like a fishing rod. The Huanuo isn't worth mentioning.

The cable management test

This is where arms go to die. If the channel can't fit a DisplayPort and a power cable, it's a decoration, not a feature. The Ergotron LX has a channel that's tight but workable. The AmazonBasics is identical. The VIVO has two channels that are just a bit too shallow. The NB North Bayou's channel is a joke. The Huanuo doesn't even try.

Best Overall

Ergotron – Upgraded LX Pro Premium Monitor Arm, Single Monitor Desk Mount – fits Flat Curved Ultrawide Computer Monitors up to 34 Inches, 4 to 22 lbs, VESA 75x75mm or 100x100mm – Matte BlackVisit on Amazon → I've had my LX for six years. It's held my 34" ultrawide and my 27" vertical without drifting a single millimeter. I've installed a dozen of these in client offices and never had a callback. The gas spring is still smooth, still silent, still holds position after 100 adjustments. It's the only arm I trust with a curved monitor at full extension.

The price is absurd. ~$249 for a piece of metal and a gas spring. But I've done the math. That's ~$0.11 a day over six years. The ~$45 cheap arm that sagged in a year? ~$0.12 a day and it's in a landfill. The LX is the cheapest arm I own, if you count the years.

One buyer wrote in March: "My LX has held the same position for 5 years. Zero drift." That matches my experience exactly. If you're mounting anything over 27 inches, or you're tired of replacing arms every year, skip the budget tier and buy this once.

Best Value

Our pick: AmazonBasics Premium Single Monitor StandVisit on Amazon → It's literally an Ergotron LX clone for half the price. Same hinges, same build. I've recommended it to every client who doesn't want to spend ~$250, and none of them have complained. The only difference I can find is the logo.

The gas spring isn't quite as buttery as the LX. There's a slight stutter on the last 10% of travel. But it holds my 34" ultrawide at full extension without sagging, and the tilt mechanism hasn't stripped. I'm 90 days into my long-term test, side by side with the LX, and it's holding its own.

At ~$99, this is the sweet spot. Buyers confirm it: "It's literally an Ergotron LX clone for half the price. Same hinges, same build." If you're on a budget, this is the arm to get.

Best for a Static Setup

VIVO Dual Monitor MountVisit on Amazon → At ~$69.99, the VIVO is the budget king for dual curved monitors. It holds two 24" curved panels solidly, and the clamp is beefy enough to handle a 1.5" desk. If you set your monitors once and never touch them, it's fine. I've installed a few of these for clients who want a clean dual setup without spending Ergotron money.

But the tilt joint stripped on mine after four months. I've seen the same complaint across buyer reviews: "The tilt joint stripped after 4 months. Now it droops like a sad flower." The plastic internals are the weak point.

If you adjust your monitors daily, spend more. If you set them and forget them, the VIVO will serve you well.

The Budget Pick

Budget pick: NB North BayouVisit on Amazon → At ~$69.99, the NB North Bayou is shockingly good for the price. It holds a 24" curved monitor fine, the gas spring is smooth when it works, and the cable management is passable. For a lightweight curved monitor that you set once and never touch, it's a steal.

But the gas spring is weak. My 29" ultrawide sagged no matter how much I tightened it. Buyers report the same: "The gas spring is weak. My 29" ultrawide sags no matter how much I tighten it." For anything heavier than 24 inches, skip it. You'll replace it in six months anyway.

Avoid

Huanuo Dual ArmVisit on Amazon → The C-clamp cracked a client's desk. A ~$500 walnut desk, ruined by a ~$35 arm. The plastic base is too thin, the gas spring died after 9 months, and customer service ghosted me when I filed a warranty claim. Buyers confirm: "The C-clamp cracked my desk. The plastic base is too thin."

I've seen the damage firsthand. I had to replace the desk. If you're on a budget, buy the NB North Bayou instead. At least it doesn't destroy furniture.

What else to consider

The Humanscale M2: Overkill but gorgeous. At ~$400, it's for the truly obsessed. It feels like a piece of modern art. But I can't justify recommending it to anyone who isn't a design enthusiast. The Ergotron LX does the same job for ~$150 less.

The ~$30 Amazon specials: I've tested them. They sag within a month, the screws strip instantly, and the gas springs hiss and die. "Cheap metal" is the kindest thing I can say. You'll spend ~$45 on a cheap arm, it'll sag in a year, and you'll buy the Ergotron anyway. Should've just spent the money upfront.

Should you buy the Ergotron LX?

If you're mounting a curved monitor over 27 inches, and you value your sleep, yes. The LX is the only arm I've tested that I can install in a paying client's office and not worry about a callback. It's expensive, but it's the last arm you'll buy.

Should you buy the AmazonBasics?

If you want 90% of the Ergotron for 60% of the price, yes. It's the best value in monitor arms, period. The gas spring might die a little sooner, the build might be slightly less refined, but for most people, 90% is enough.

Should you buy the VIVO?

If you have two 24" curved monitors and you don't move them often, yes. It's a solid budget pick. But if you adjust your monitors daily, or you're mounting anything heavier, spend more. The tilt joint will strip, and you'll be sad.

Should you buy the NB North Bayou?

If you have a 24" curved monitor and ~$40 to spend, maybe. It's a gamble. The gas spring might hold, or it might sag in a month. For the price, it's worth the risk. For anything heavier, no.

I've been through four arms in six years. The ~$30 Amazon special that sagged within a month. The VIVO that stripped its tilt joint. The Huanuo that dented my walnut desk. And finally, the Ergotron LX that's been rock solid for three years. I'm not an expert by trade. I'm an expert by trial and error. And I'm here to save you the pain. Your curved monitor deserves better than a gamble.
